Aging can have a dramatic look on our appearance. As we age, our body produces less collagen, and our skin loses its elasticity. Over time, this can begin to show up as facial skin begins to shift down and can cause the brow line to lower.
Since we express many of our emotions with our faces and eyebrows, the sagging of the brow line causes us to look angry, sad, or serious when we might not be feeling any of those. By improving the position of the brow line, the face will appear more youthful, happy, and vibrant.
Sometimes called a forehead lift, a brow lift is a surgical procedure that shifts and improves the brow line, as well as removes lines and wrinkles around the forehead. For the best results, a brow lift can be performed in conjunction with other procedures such as facelift surgery or eyelid rejuvenation.
Depending on the current position of the brow line and how it can best be improved, Dr. Hunsaker will suggest one of three types of brow lift procedures. Each procedure is slightly different and moves the brow in a specific way. With expertise in all these procedures, Dr. Hunsaker can develop a treatment plan, specific to your body.
A lateral brow lift is usually completed in about an hour, and involves a small incision behind the hairline, on the sides of the brow. A suture then holds the brow in its new position. This will bring a rejuvenated look to your eyes and upper face.
An endoscopic brow lift is slightly more extensive and involves shifting and lifting the tissue across the forehead. This procedure takes about two hours and requires a week of recovery. However, only two small incisions are needed, reducing the likelihood of visible scarring.
The most dramatic procedure is the direct brow lift. A direct brow lift is typically performed as a reconstruction procedure and requires incisions in prominent locations in the brow line.
